A Few Pictures from Our Trip to Plymouth, MA

Last year we traveled to Plymouth, Massachusetts to help a friend move. It was a wonderful experience! Here are some of our pics from our journey.

The Harbor in Plymouth.

This is the Mayflower II, the replica of the first Mayflower.

Plymouth Rock that the Pilgrims landed on and yes, this is the actual rock!

The top part that is showing is only 1/3 of the entire rock. The rest is below it. It does look small in this picture, but it is still a pretty good size. The top piece had been removed from this location and people had chipped pieces off and they finally brought it back to this spot and cemented it back to the original bottom.

Governor William Bradford's monument.

It is truly amazing to walk where these brave and faithful men, women, and children came almost 400 years ago so that they could worship the One True God without being persecuted.

The Forefather's Monument.

This monument was built in 1889 and is just breathtaking! There is so much detail and symbolism throughout this monument. There are five statues that represent Faith, Morality, Education, Liberty, and Law. Each piece shows things that are significant to the meaning.

Just for one example: Faith is the statue standing at the very top and she is pointing to heaven and holding the Geneva Bible with pages that look as if the wind is blowing them to represent the Holy Spirit.

After leaving the Forefather's Monument we stopped by Burial Hill where many of the Pilgrims were buried.

Governor William Bradford's grave.

This was a grave of the earliest Missionaries from that time. This man went all the way to Burma (now called Myanmar) to share the gospel of Jesus!

John Howland was the Pilgrim that fell into the sea during their voyage over. By the grace of God he held onto a rope and was saved by the crew of the ship. Ironically, he was the oldest survivor of the original 102 that came in 1620.

Downtown Plymouth

This is the Pilgrim Mothers Monument for all of the women on the Mayflower.

This quote on the back says, "They brought up their families in sturdy virtue and a living faith in God without which nations perish."

The girls have a neat little version of "America the Beautiful" that they like to do and Joel suggested that they do it in front of Plymouth Rock! We forgot to do it the first day, so we stopped by the second day and they were able to sing it.

We then got to go through the Pilgrim Hall Museum. The girls did this treasure hunt and we all got to see some amazing items from the Pilgrims. One of the most touching things for me was seeing a poster of all of the families that made the voyage over the Atlantic and then seeing the ones that had died that first year. They did not allow photographs to be taken inside :(

We ate lunch at the Colonial Restaurant and my crab cakes were so delicious!

Another view of the Pilgrim Hall Museum.

Plymouth, Ma is a very special place and if you ever get the chance to visit - I highly recommend it!
We were able to go back last fall and be a part of Kirk Cameron's new documentary "Monumental"! If you want to see pictures of Plymouth and Lexington & Concord from that trip you can click HERE!
